About Me

Derek Faulkner
I have lived on and rambled around on Sheppey all of my life and I'm interested in anything to do with its wildlife and history. Retired in 2006,aged 59. Was a Voluntary Warden on the Swale NNR at Harty, Sheppey from 1987 to June 2012, when Natural England scrapped the posts. I still visit that reserve most days and have been re-instated as a Voluntary Warden by Elmley Conservation Trust, who mange the reserve for Natural England. I first joined the Kent Ornithological Society in 1959 but I very rarely birdwatch anywhere other than on Sheppey. I have the one Jack Russell dog, called Ellie, who is normally with me on the reserve as I carry out my regular patrols. Ellie was born in Sept 2011.
